The device has been developed to eliminate weaknesses of today’s tugs, and disrupt the 100-year old methodology of ship towage. The device attaches itself to any vessel’s underwater hull and effectively becomes an onboard thruster under direct control of the pilot’s handheld. The pilot can then manoeuvre the vessel using a combination of vessel’s engines and the device. In addition to vessel assistance for ship maneuvering, the device can be used for dynamic positioning of offshore barges, salvage, oil spill pollution assistance and underwater inspections of various port facilities and marine assets. The technology is a combination of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and an external thruster arrangement, with a unique application that will change the world towage operations. Design tasks undertaken so far include the equipment selection, hydrostatics, electrical & mechanical design, finite element analysis, as well as build of a mini model with some functionality. The first unit will be ready for sale in 1.5 years from commencement, which includes prototype testing and approvals. Patent pending. With a 6 mil dollar investment for the design, approvals and securing new contracts, we expect the product to cross a 300 million dollar sales after the first 3 years.
